Photographs take on a particular importance in a long-distance relationship. They give you a record of the times you’re together that you can look back through when you miss each other, and they allow you to share special moments when you can’t be there in person. You can turn this into even more of a bonding experience by maintaining identical photo albums. It’s as easy as it sounds—each of you can choose a photo album (or give them as gifts), and when you get prints made, simply order doubles.
It helps to take lots of photos when you’re together, of course, but you can also get prints made of events you attend separately, or of the photo scavenger hunts you send each other on, or even of the picture messages you send each other on your cell phones every day.
You can order prints at lots of different places—through iPhoto, or through Walgreens or Target stores or websites. You can even print your own. And you can give your partner his or her set of photos when you visit, or send them through the mail. For a sweet surprise, leave a set behind under your sweetie’s pillow when you have to leave, or stick it in their backpack for the plane ride home.
By keeping identical photo albums, the two of you can look through them together from time to time while you’re on the phone, and reminisce over the same pictures and memories. Although it would be possible to look through the same photos online, it’s nice to have something both tangible and organized, that contains only your favorite pictures.
Of course, you’ll have two sets of the photos when you’re finally living together again, but that’s a small price to pay—you can always use the extras for photo collages or cards that you make for each other, or have a set to put on display.
